Factors that lead to Domestic Violence
There are many factors that contribute to the high incidence of domestic violence in our society and around the world. There are social, cultural, legal and economic reasons that it is so prevalent. February was Teenage Dating Violence Awareness Month and therein may lie the hope for change. If there is to be any improvement of the dismal statistics, then education has to be an integral part. School-based programs that educate youth on gender equality, excessive use of alcohol and domestic violence might serve the double purpose of identifying children at-risk before they can become perpetrators themselves.
